This week on BTL, friend-of-the-podcast Carla Nordstrom joins us in the studio to talk through the week in Trump and tell us about her project at seedsofdemocracy.org! We analyze Trump's joint session speech and brief window of glory, Jeff Sessions' ensuing scandal less then 12 hours later, Saturday's wire-tapping Twitter tour de force, and lots more. We've also got updates on how Democrats are faring in local elections, how voting in general is faring in America, and how Oprah Winfrey is faring now that rich celebrities can be the president. Another week of pure political insanity - don't miss a moment of it! It'll (hopefully) never happen again!
BTL #233 - #ResistanceRecess - 2/21/17
This week on BTL, #ResistanceRecess has begun! Check online for events near you! Plus, this week had all the news and these days that doesn't even feel like a shock. Flynn is out, Puzder is out, an epic Trump Press Conference graced the airwaves, a man literally named McMaster is in, and we celebrated new fake terrorism (#neverremember again and always). Plus, Chris Christie unwittingly provides the perfect metaphor for this whole ride so far. Check it out, rate us on iTunes and Stitcher, and leave a comment!
BTL #232 - SEE YOU IN COURT [w/ Special Guests: Bad News Live’s Chuck Ludwig and Julianne Simitz] - 2/13/17
This week on BTL...the Bad News Live Crew is back! Check out their next live show on Feb 18th at the Acme Theater in LA! In the meantime, however, catch them reliving the million hours of news the Trump administration so thoughtfully produced in the last week. First a foremost, let's #neverremember to #newforget a new category of fake terrorist victims - those (zero) lost in the Atlanta attacks. Plus, we've got news on the Muslim Ban's court progress, updates on the senate confirmations (DeVos, Sessions, Price, oh my!), thoughts on why and how #shepersisted, whether or not Hillary Clinton has persisted, whether or not the Senate should persist, and more! Also, anybody with leads for where a person can get some easy D should contact the White House.
BTL #231 - #NeverForget to #NeverRemember - 2/7/17
This week on BTL, when will the powers that be agree that America has been through enough?! This week we did it all: re-lived the horrors of election 2016 in football form, re-lived the horrors of Antonin Scalia in Trump-SCOTUS-pick form, celebrated the alt-facts version of Black History Month (thanks white people for creating black history!), commemorated the worst imaginary terrorist attack to ever hit US soil (#NeverRemember), and accidentally thwarted a coup attempt by cleverly allowing a complete idiot to attempt a coup with any professional assistance. Though this week felt like seven months in thought-time, we can confirm that it's only been one week in real time and the fact that we made it through is certainly something to celebrate. Join the fun!
BTL #230 - The Gossipy Side of a Constitutional Crisis [SPECIAL GUEST: William Floyd, LA County Dems] - 1/30/17
This week on BTL, join us for a walk down memory lane as we recount every single horrifying thing that happened in the last week. Yup, week. Trump has only been the president for a week. We're already mid-constitutional crisis, we've already pissed off most of the world, and Trump's staff keeps tweeting us their passwords so things are leakier over there than a paper pipe. On the bright side, if you enjoy protesting, you'll have lots of opportunities coming up. Also, if you enjoy engaging in Wikipedia mischief, this next year is probably going to be your holy grail.
Also if you're pissed, get involved at the local level! Don't miss our interview with William Floyd of the LA County Democrats to find out more about what that means.
BTL #229 - Pussy Hats and Alternative Facts - 1/24/17
This week on a bicoastal BTL, it's tales of the largest march in US history! We got crowd counts as well as stories of attending on both coasts! (Well done LA! 750,000?!) And guess what wasn't the largest gathering in US history? Duh, the inauguration, despite what Trump and Sean Spicer's "Alternative Facts" may claim. Plus, we've got a rundown of the week's insano cabinet confirmation hearings, the already mounting tragedy that is Trump's first days in office, and, most importantly, the real deal with Sean Spicer's five-year feud with Dippin' Dots.
BTL #228 - Extra Rights - 1/16/17
This week on BLT...will anybody actually be at the inauguration on Friday? So far it looks like it's going to be Hillary Clinton and Code Pink. Plus, Trump will save the ungrateful voters in John Lewis’ totally functioning district whether they want him to or not, and Ben Carson will stop all those pesky gay people from getting their extra rights. What a relief! Meanwhile, Cory Booker shoots himself in the 2020 foot, the GOP signals their plans to take away your healthcare are just as ill conceived as you imagined, and nobody does a press conference like Donald Trump and a stack of blank paper. Bonus: we did it, America! #GoldenShowers has now officially trended on Twitter. Come for the news, stay for the...news!
BTL #227 Un-Losable - 1/9/17
This week on BTL...do you want to cry tears of joy/frustration/helplessness/anger/inspiration? Good, because you'll have no choice if you try to watch Michelle Obama's final speech as FLOTUS. Other things that might make you cry include: basically anything else that's going on in America. Shootings (the domestic terror kind, stand down war hawks!), gaffes, ineptitude of the highest order by the seasoned professionals in Congress, and a few things that are so bad they're funny like the rumor Hillary Clinton is mulling over a run for the Mayor of NYC. First obstacle: she's never actually lived there. Okay, 2017, let the games begin!
